History Of Java: Java is a most popular Object-Oriented Programming Language. It was developed by James Gosling, Patric Naughton, Chris Wrath, ,Ed Frank and Mike Sheridan at Sun Micro systems in 1991. It took 18 months to develop the first working version. This Java development project is known as Green Project.
In 1990, Sun Micro Systems decided to develop special software that could be used to manipulate consumer electronic devices. Gosling and his team take this task.
In 1991, Gosling and team announced a new language named "Oak". In 1992, this team develop the new language for home applications.
In 1993, Green Project team develop the Web Applets for Internet computers (WWW environment).
In 1994, this team developed a Web Browser called Hot Java. In 1995, Oak renamed as "Java". Java is just a name. Its not an acronym.
In 1996 Jan 21, Sun releases Java Development Kit (JDK 1.0)
In 1997 Feb 19, Sun released Java Development Kit (JDK 1.1)
In 1998 Dec 8, Sun released Java2 with version 1.2 of Software Development Kit (SDK 1.2)
In 1999, Sun released Java2 platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) and Enterprise Edition (J2EE).
In 2000 May 8, J2SE with SDK 1.3 was released.
In 2002 Feb 6, J2SE with SDK 1.4 was released.
In 2004 Sep 30, J2SE with JDK 5.0 was released.
In 2006 Dec 11, Java SE6 was released. There are 51 updates were made to Java 1.6 version. Last update was made on 18/06/2013.
In 2011 July 28, Java SE7 was released. There are 40 updates were made to Java 1.7 version. Last update was made on 10/09/2013
